|
The government of the people’s Republic of China, will undertake the architectural and technical supervision of the construction, which is again an outright gift of the Chinese Government. Construction work on the land of 4000 squares feet in extent will commence in April next year. Around 750 stalls could be accommodated in the new building, which will be of international standards.
A separate educational centre for the benefit of students and others who are keen to follow courses in the international languages will also come up in the vicinity.
A sum of Rs. 400 Million is estimated to be the cost of construction work.
Sri Lanka’s very first conference hall of international standards, the BMICH, was an outright gift in memory of Late Premier S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike in 1975.
Director General, BMICH Bandula Ekanayake told the Sunday Observer that, in addition to holding local and international exhibitions, the management of the BMICH has also decided to provide all facilities to young artists who wish to hold their shows.
